About Walmart

Walmart is one of the largest department stores. It sells everything from groceries to clothing, seasonal items, gardening supplies, housewares, furniture, and office supplies.

They rely on Canadians to use them as a one-stop shop. As of 2024, most Walmart shops have self-checkout machines to help those who want to help themselves.

I know I don’t always choose to shop at Walmart because I find their staff doesn’t know the actual products. However, if you can find a customer service representative, the staff can still help you find the item you are looking for in most cases.

  1. Today, I went to the checkout to pay for my items, the most significant item being a 30-roll pack of toilet tissue that I placed on the belt. The clerk advised me that she had scanned the tissue, which I didn’t understand why she was telling me that, so I asked what the total of the order was. She said, “I scanned your tissue, which is a large item, and I need you to remove it off the belt. I asked if she wasn’t allowed to do it herself, and she said, “It’s not that I’m not allowed; I just choose not to”. I am 71 years old, and this lady was barely 30. I told her of how when I worked at a grocery store as a pregnant woman, I used to fill plastic bins with grocery bags and lift them from the counter to the conveyor belt a few yards away and deliver the baby the next day. She said, “See, I would not do that!” I said, “How times have changed; we do what we have to do to which she replied, “Or don’t do.” I would have thought that the alert was for the benefit of the client who may be incapacitated or aged, but my supervisor tells me that it’s for both the protection of the customer and the staff member! How sad that this population is so entitled and egotistical that the notion of helping in the name of kindness no longer exists! Common sense should be taken out of the dictionary!

  2. They bought 4 Lou’s packaged meats (Chili Beef). I went home and saw that we were charged 13% tax on the four packages. Upon returning to the store, I was refused (a) a tax refund. Staff said the Lou’s were “prepared foods” (which they weren’t). The refund was refused, although taped refund conditions did not include this made-up condition. Also, I Went and bought another Lou’s package. Now, no tax is charged (as is the case with every other store). I went to the refund area for a second time. The cashier tried to argue the case that no tax should be on the other four packages. I called another store boss (b) again, and there was no refund on 4 Lou’s packages… It needs to be more tricky. I’m unable to do something about “paper”(?). He was willing to give a refund (which the other associate had refused. Remember the “prepared meat” argument…Of course, no more prepared than slices, hams, etc.) Got a refund (less than $3 ). Do better.

  3. All the working people at walmart are amiable and helpful, especially the ones greeting you at the door – we are friends with all of them and enter into a chat. We are friends with the McDonalds saleslady, too.

  4. Hello – my comment is regarding the service I received at the photo lab. An associate named Norah was helping me. It was a busy day, and yet she came to the kiosk twice to help me, which was challenging as the directions to follow for choosing reprints on the computer for the program I needed there needed to be clarified. I have been to the kiosk to order reprints, but maybe they have made changes to their process and have left out steps that they assume the customer should know but don’t because I found the whole experience frustrating. She was patient with me, even though she had not encountered that particular problem before and after numerous attempts, she was able to figure out the process. I appreciated her patience, her friendly manner and persistence. I am happy to give Norah my appreciation and a good recommendation.

  5. I entered the math question (4×2)+(6+3)-5=12, but they said it was wrong; why? So now I’m not in the sweepstakes!!
